Physics-Based Engineering and the Machine-Learning "Black Box" Problem - California News Times

#artificialintelligence

Machine learning algorithms are often referred to as "black boxes." Once the data is put into the algorithm, it is not always possible to know exactly how the algorithm will reach the prediction. This can be especially frustrating when problems occur. MIT's new Mechanical Engineering (MechE) course teaches students how to combine data science and physics-based engineering to tackle the "black box" problem. In Class 2.C161 (Modeling and Designing Physical Systems Using Machine Learning), Professor George Barbastathis teaches how mechanical engineers use their unique knowledge of physical systems to check algorithms and create more accurate predictions.

This article is an on-site version of the #techAsia newsletter.sign up here Send newsletter directly to your inbox every Wednesday Hello, Kenji from Tokyo this week is currently undergoing home quarantine for Covid-19. For our big story, there is another scoop about Apple from Nikkei Asia. China's state-owned enterprise has become a supplier of the latest flagship iPhone displays. This shows how advanced China's technology, including artificial intelligence, has advanced, as warned by a former Pentagon chief software officer (Mercedes Top 10). Meanwhile, China is building and diversifying its sources of strategic mineral resources, including lithium, a key component of the world's leading electric vehicle industry (our views, smart data and spotlights).

Machine learning algorithm to diagnose deep vein thrombosis - California News Times

Segmentation is robust throughout compression. The venous region is evaluated for full compressibility to rule out DVT. Device: Clarius L7 (2017). The team of researchers aims to diagnose deep vein thrombosis (DVT) as quickly and effectively as traditional radiologist-interpreted diagnostic scans, reduce long patient waiting lists, and avoid patients. Receive medication unnecessarily to treat DVT when they do not have it. DVT is one of the most commonly formed blood clots in the legs, causing swelling, pain, and discomfort.

AI Networks Based on Human Brain Connectivity Can Perform Cognitive Tasks - California News Times

#artificialintelligence

Artificial neural networks modeled on the real brain can perform cognitive tasks. New research shows that artificial intelligence networks based on the connectivity of the human brain can perform cognitive tasks efficiently. By examining MRI data from large open science repositories, researchers reconstructed brain connection patterns and applied them to artificial neural networks (ANNs). ANN, like the biological brain, is a computing system consisting of multiple input and output units. A team of researchers at the Neuro (Montreal Institute for Neurology-Hospital) and the Quebec Institute for Artificial Intelligence train ANNs to perform cognitive memory tasks and observe how they work to complete assignments.

6 Ways to Master Coding at Home - California News Times

#artificialintelligence

Remember, programming has its own jargon. For example, you will have to deal with such a concept as cycles no matter what language you use. Home programming education is now more affordable thanks to educational technology offering a wide range of courses and programs. During the pandemic, when people have more free time, these resources will help both novice and experienced programmers. The former will get acquainted with the basics of coding, and the latter will be able to hone their professional skills.

This article is an on-site version of the #fintechFT newsletter. Using artificial intelligence to improve fraud detection is becoming one of the hottest trends in the insurance industry, but it is also one of the most controversial trends. US insurer Lemonade has become a case study of potential technology rewards and reputational risks. Lemonade has become one of the most successful large-scale IPOs in 2020, fulfilling its promise to speed up and simplify lessor insurance and home insurance with AI-powered apps. But earlier this year, it sparked a social media backlash in concerns about the behavior of the algorithm.
